Yesterday after our meeting with Kaitlyn we decided to head out to the South Gate or Namdenum Market. This place is enourmous. There must be thousands of stalls selling just about everything. We even spotted a few things in jars we couldn't identify! There were whole stalls dedicated to nothing but wrapping paper. The paper was so exquisite we thought it was fabric from a distance. It was an experience to just mingle with the people from Seoul going about their daily business.
After the market we decided to check out the N. Seoul Tower which offers panaramic views of the city. We trudged up to the cable car station. I mean trudged. The city of Seoul is unused to dealing with snow that lasts any length of time and it is in the process of being cleaned up. The sidewalks were an experience when going up hill! The cable car ride was great and you got amazing views of the city. It was fairly clear so we could see all of the mountains surrounding the city. Once in the observatory you realize just how vast the city is. Just amazing!
Just wanted to add something cute that happened on Monday. We were going back into the subway station after visting the palace and these two little high school girls asked if they could interview us. They are working on a project about discrimination and wanted to know our views. They were just so sweet. It took a bit before we all understood what the other was saying but it all worked out. Somewhere in Seoul there is a picture of Ben & I being used in a project. One of my big regrets on this trip was not getting a picure of these two girls.
Great pictures. It is so mucg fun to get out with the people in a new country. Daddy and I were pracitce in english for a gaggle of school kids in Kamakura. Enjoy! Momma
